Thanks for the replies. Since I posted the original questions I have spent a lot of time researching for a good BMW specific OBD2 scanner. As many of you mention, Carly is one of the top choices. One thing that people need to keep in mind is that you need the Carly adapter plus the Carly Pro app which costs about $60.

Actually, if you ordered NT520 BMW scanner, the dealer will ship out NT530 (NT520 upgrade version), since NT520 can't work with F series while NT530 covers.

I've used so many programs over the years, but I've always found that I liked BMW Scanner 1.4 the best. It has a decent GUI and is relatively easy to get up and running. Yes, BMW Standard Tools is useful for doing more complex diagnostics and coding, but half the time you'll get frustrated with program or language mismatch errors.

Setup is inside the PA Soft BMW Scanner folder. 1.1 - If you already have drivers previously installed which does not work or faulty, use the device manager to find and delete devices such as "USB serial port (under Ports section) / USB Serial converter / BMW Scanner, etc.
