The San Francisco Municipal Railway is holding its annual Muni Heritage Weekend this weekend with a big assortment of equipment on the streets. All photos taken today 9/21. Market Street Railway Co. 578 is the oldest passenger streetcar still on the active roster of an urban transit agency in the country. Built by the Hammond Car Co. in 1896.
The tracks you can still see there are all street-running. The ones on 15th St. and Alameda St. are Western Pacific. The Utah St. tracks are SP. Stauffer Chemical was served by both the WP via the 15th St. lead and the SP via the Utah St. lead. In the first image this is the trackmap for San Francisco. The SP is red.

It was part of the swap of units between Amtrak and ATSF that brought SDP40F's to the ATSF roster in exchange for small switching capable power.
