  2. So I just finished watching a Serbian film... - Reddit

This film explores that notion of yeah this is incredibly disturbing but SOMEONE was interested in it and therefore has marketability. I compare the film with 8mm a lot because it feels like an exploration of what is the "niche" content that people are invested it, and a Serbian film expertly digressed what niche interest can look like.

  3. Has anyone actually *watched* A Serbian Film? How bad, graphic...

14 votes, 15 comments. true. I think Scott Weinberg explains it well. I think the film is tragic, sickening, disturbing, twisted, absurd, infuriated, and actually quite intelligent. There are those who will be unable (or unwilling) to decipher even the most basic of 'messages' buried within A Serbian Film, but I

  4. ‘A Serbian Film’… is there anything worse? : r/horror - Reddit

Irreversible will make a Serbian Film look cute. A Serbian Film is all about shock horror and driving the literal metaphor as far out as possible without really having all that much depth to it in the end. Irreversible will teach you some shit about destruction of the human soul and ego driven revenge.

  6. Why are there people defending "A Serbian Film"? - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/.../comments/147t7gc/why_are_there_people_defending_a_serbian_film

Salo is the shock art that people pretend a serbian film is. I feel like the only person who will defend a Serbian film by admitting that it is purely shock for shock’s sake. Salo feels like it explores relationships of power more than it feels like a shock movie. The things that happen in the movie are shocking.

That is one aspect, but it comprises a considerable amount of the film's runtime, like ten or fifteen solid minutes, and manages to be difficult viewing for all of those minutes, never seeming to allow the viewer the get-out of desensitisation or a sense of artifice (unlike, say, "I Spit on Your Grave", which features a similarly lengthy assault).

  8. A Serbian Film - social commentary or excessive trash?

Irreversible was certainly more... Tasteful. They don't treat rape as a gag and it's message is a little more universal (the irreversible damage of retribution and the cycle of violence) whereas A Serbian Film is a shocking political and social satire that was made to resonate with a very particular audience while also poking fun at the country's attempts at upholding a squeaky clean image.

  9. What's the matter with 'A Serbian Film'? : r/movies - Reddit

    www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/2e7gjl/whats_the_matter_with_a_serbian_film

The entire film is in Serbian (I think, not sure what language to be honest) and is completely uncensored. There's many sex scenes that would classify as rape and many scenes where the protagonist (I think his names Nico) brutally beats the woman he's having sex with.

Nonetheless, I do feel there's an interesting discussion to be had about the possible merits and weaknesses of this film. Arguably, A Serbian Film could be the most controversial film of the 2010s - banned in multiple countries, and many refusing to release the film uncut, it's a film that caused much dismay on the film festival circuit during ...

  11. The use of children in A Serbian Film : r/TrueFilm - Reddit

The children used in A Serbian Film were all key components to the themes of the story. Whether it was the loss of innocence, the corruption of our children, or Milos’ sanity. Petar, Jeca, and the newborn all completed the picture of what is now considered one of the most controversial films in cinematic history.
