A repurchase agreement, also known as a repo, RP, or sale and repurchase agreement, is a form of short-term borrowing, mainly in government securities. The dealer sells the underlying security to investors and, by agreement between the two parties, buys them back shortly afterwards, usually the following day, at a slightly higher price.
The Johannesburg Interbank Average Rate[1](JIBAR) is the money marketrate, used in South Africa. It is calculated as the average interest rate at which banks buy and sell money. This rate is calculated daily by the South African Futures Exchangeas the average prime lending ratequoted independently by a number of different banks.
