Tour is through Maine Maritime Museum. Need to sign up for tour in advance. Family enjoyed seeing this amazing shipyard in action. Went on a Friday, so the place was bustling. Great tour guide- Dennis worked there for many years and could answer any question with flair. Recommend this highly.
On May 31st, 1890, Bath Iron Works delivered its first hull, Cottage City, to the Maine Steamship Co. It was 232 feet long, 40 feet wide with a draft of just over 16 feet and was powered by a triple expansion steam engine capable of producing 1,400 horsepower.
