The California Beach Volleyball Association, commonly known by the acronym CBVA, was the first governing body for beach volleyball. [1] Since its founding in 1962, CBVA has coordinated local beach volleyball tournaments for players of all skill levels. In 2017, CBVA hosted nearly 1,000 tournaments at 23 beaches in 11 skill or age divisions.
A standout junior beach volleyball player, Hughes won numerous tournaments on the Amateur Athletic Union and California Beach Volleyball Association circuits. From 2004 to 2012, she was mostly partnered with Justine Wong-Orantes, playing as a blocker. With Wong-Orantes, Hughes placed ninth at the 2011 and 2012 U19 World Championships.
In addition to volleyball, Rogers played soccer at San Marcos High School. After high school, Rogers enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He played for the men's volleyball team from 1993 through 1996 and was twice named a Second Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 1995 and 1996.
