You may not have scratched them off. I also just recently purchased 2 cards from Krogers and the same exact spots were missing in the PIN. I was very careful scratching the 2nd card fearing I may have done what you thought you did. But the 2nd card was missing numbers in the middle of the code in the same area. Obvious manufacturing defect.
