Duval Street (/ Ė d uĖ v Él /) is a downtown commercial zoned street in Key West, Florida, running north and south from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean, just over 1.25 miles in length. It is named for William Pope Duval , the first territorial governor of Florida.
There are a number of 1853 yellow fever victims in the Old Town Key West Cemetery. [ 14 ] The fever was at Port Royal, Jamaica in April through June, killing 10 and then vanished; [ 15 ] and in September it landed in Bermuda.
Construction on the house began in 1848 and was completed in 1851 [5] by Asa Tift, a marine architect and salvage wrecker, in a French Colonial estate style. [6] The house's site, across the street from the Key West Lighthouse, [7] has an elevation of 16 feet (4.9 m) above sea level, making it the second-highest site on the island.
