My rule of thumb for building gaming PCs is to allocate half the budget to the graphics card - which is the most important thing for gaming components. If you go to the store and buy an $800 PC, you'd be lucky to get $500 in parts. On the other hand if you pay someone locally $50-$100 to build a PC for you, you can get $700-$750 in parts.
ADMIN MOD • Best PC $750-$1000 My ASUS G14 got fried recently and I need to buy a new PC because it would cost like $700 just to get a new motherboard. I’m looking for something around $750-$1000 and will last me a long time.
I personally feel that console is best for more casual audiences. If you're a kid, a person that just wants to game, etc.. it's a better fit. Don't gotta worry about settings or anything either. It for sure has bang-for-buck value, but I could argue the same with PC. PC just takes hours of research- even if you're looking for prebuilt.

I’m pretty big into competitive games (esports like OW, VALORANT, R6), so the best performing setup in terms of FPS is a priority. No budget currently but I have an idea of the specs I’m looking for: preferably RTX 3070 and up i7 13700k 32Gb RAM

If you get $1,400 in parts, and pay a shop $100 to build it, you'll still get a much better PC than any $1,500 pre-built. My general rule of thumb is to allocate half the budget to the graphics card. If you're serious about gaming, you can even go a bit above for $1,000+ PCs. Something like this is a great starting point: PCPartPicker Part List
