About an hour and a half later, my daughter came in and told me that one of the geese was at the fence that contains an area right outside our back door ...

In the U.S., it is not illegal to own a Canada goose per se, but it is illegal to keep a wild Canada goose. You might think about handing him over to a wildlife rehabber if you can find one close to you. Or, at least contacting one and asking about it.

The furtherest we knew her to be was 1 mile away. Even pond-hopping her way back, it was a long way one tiny webbed-step at a time, through woods, under fences, across a county highway. She's on the pond at night, and in the daytime, she rarely strays far from it.

Serious weight gain and size change this week. Looking far less "baby" and more "goose". Honks have almost completely replaced the peeps and feathers are filling in everywhere. (6 weeks old)... Definitely looks more like a goose. Body is approx. 3/4 feathered. Neck and head remain downy, though the beginnings of feathers can be felt.

I'm monitoring a wild Canada Goose nest. Unfortunately, the other day something disturbed her so that there was an interruption in her incubation. I checked on her in the morning, all was well, then came back 4.5 hours later to find her standing over her eggs. Something disturbed her that I was able to fix and she sat back on the eggs immediately.

Spring 2010 came around and the pair bred again. She successfully hatched out six goslings, but lost one after a few weeks.
