The Valais Blacknose, ‹See Tfd› German: Walliser Schwarznasenschaf, is a breed of domestic sheep originating in the Valais region of Switzerland. [2] It is a dual-purpose breed, raised both for meat and for wool.

The Valais Blacknose sheep are very hardy and strong animals. They are mainly a dual purpose animal, good for both meat and wool. But today the breed is raised mainly for meat production purpose. It is a very beautiful breed of domestic sheep and popular in it’s native area.
The characteristics of the Blacknose sheep fall into three areas: General Appearance, Conformation, and Wool. Giving the Blacknose sheep its name, the Valais has a black nose which extends up to the center of the head connecting and encompassing the black surrounding the eyes.
Valais Blacknose have fast growing wool and need shearing twice a year for optimal health and fleece quality. They can grow up to 30cm a year and have a micron of about 28 –30 microns. Ideally shearing every 6 months with one of the times being early summer for flystrike prevention and because these sheep really do not like the heat.
The typical Valais Blacknose has a harmonious, robust and large-framed body, with wool of similar length and thickness all over its body, head and legs.
