While Light doesn't become a Shinigami, Ryuk does state that he would make a Good Shinigami because of how he uses the Death Note, he makes this comment i think the episode "Deal" when Ryuk mentionsthe eye deal after Light says "If i keep bargain for Eyes and Wings i'll probably end up becoming a Shinigami". i think this is where the misunderstanding comes from.

Kira (Or Light Yagami) is definitely an anti hero. By definition, anti hero means the central character in a story, film, or drama who lacks conventional heroic attributes. Heroic attributes are the qualities like strong sense of justice, striving for others rather than his own existence, compassion for others etc.

An unfortunate fact of life is that all humans make mistakes. Light's first fatal mistake was killing Lind L. Taylor. For the first time, Light killed a man who he had thought to be a non-criminal. This proved to L that Kira was a human. A human that was mortal enough to feel threatened by a man on the television.

First, nobody should have that power. Light killed innocent people. Granted a few but a few is to much. He become a killer for fun. On the other hand. I rather he have the deathnote than anyone else. L had been suspicious, strongly suspicious and just a tad less strongly suspicious of Light being Kira throughout the entire anime (or, well: those potions wherein he was alive).
