Gadsden is a city in Etowah County, Alabama, on the Coosa River. It was founded in 1845 and named after James Gadsden, who negotiated the Gadsden Purchase from Mexico. It was a major river port and industrial center in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Las Vegas was established in 1835 after a group of settlers received a land grant from the Mexican government.
