Great scopes for the money. Years ago I replaced all of Leupold 6.5X20's for the Bausch&Lomb 6X24's. Way better scope! The later version Bushnell's are great too. You can buy nice used one's for $325.00 to $400.00 dollars. I have only had one issue in all of the years I have used them and that was a crosshair that broke.

The Bal- series scopes were originally the B&L line that required mounts with windage and elevation. The Bal- B series are basically the same as the Bal- series scopes with internal adjustments.
Al has a point. There is a pretty big difference between 3200 and the 4200 optically. But I buy them and pick them still because the were Japan built which I still think is better than new stuff built other places and I like their optical formula.
I have a bausch and Lomb 1.5 x 6 rifle scope. It is from their balvar line. The scope is about 20 years old I believe. What is the quality on one of these compared to a leupold VX1? Is it strong enough for a 45 70?

Folks, anyone know much about the B&L 2.5-10x40 Elite 4200? Is it identical to the ones made by Bushnell? This one is gloss with a standard duplex reticle and the Rainguard coating. Can't find much info on them. How long since B&L made these? Thanks. - Bob
Had one back in the day on a heavy 26 inch barreled M-70 in 243 Win, great glass, used it to guide 55 gr NBT's and 58gr Vmax's to 4150 fps with RL-15, VERMIN BOMB it was, that said, I just installed a gloss Elite 2.5-10 I've had forever on a 30-06, it's my scope rifle that isn't combo, a Bausch & Lomb made in Japan sitting on a 50's built L61R ...
Also, what is the difference(if any) between Balvars with the red triangle on the windage cap and the ones that say Bausch and Lomb(with small stars) on the windage cap. If I remember right the ones I had years agao were of the red triangle variety and this new one says Bausch and Lomb. I don't have it in my hands and was curious about a few ...
