Conifer High School opened in the fall of 1996 to serve students in the southern portion of what had previously been Evergreen High School's matriculation area. The area encompasses a large part of southwestern Jefferson County, including the communities of Aspen Park, Buffalo Creek, Pine, and Pine Junction, as well as parts of southern Evergreen and southwestern Morrison.
The three small schools were named: Technology, Engineering & Communications School (TEC), Health Sciences & Human Services High School (HS3), and Arts & Academics Academy (AAA). [4] Beginning in the 2017–2018 school year, the small schools were disbanded and the campus was re-unified as Evergreen High School.
R.S. Abbott Elementary School - located at 3630 S. Wells; opened in 1881 and closed in 2008; the building currently houses Air Force Academy High School. John P. Altgeld Elementary School - located at 1340 W 71st St.; closed in 2014. Renamed Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary School after moving to the site of this school.
