The only issue I have is with one specific warehouse. Obviously RockAuto doesn't operate their own warehouses, just contract out. If I get a package coming in from Lakeland NY United Auto Parts warehouse, I can guarantee that I'm going to get the wrong part. It is a fun guessing game to play! I ordered rear brake rotors for the grand marquis.
$67US to ship $163US in parts. $67 is a good deal for Fedex, considering it came from Auburn WA (~140 miles away) but it's still WAY cheaper than buying in Canada. Assuming all parts are actually included in my order when I arrive home tonight, I'll be very impressed.
You go on their site and answer questions. They go down the line of asking you your make and model and at the end they say manufactures can substitute parts of other companies but it will never affect fitment or function. Rockauto believes all the aftermarket parts they sell are the ultimate quality and perfect.
Rockauto posted a picture of a "black" Wix filter and its part number implied a premium product. I got a store brand (as expected-- I ordered closeout) but the part number was a cross reference, and its suffix showed it was actually the lower-tier product.
Rockauto is the best online site for parts that exists. It usually gives many choices for any available part usually with a picture(s). It tells you upfront the cost with shipping. You can utilize their catalog to get part numbers to shop elsewhere. They are easy to deal with if you know what you need and order the correct part.
I've found that Rockauto also sometimes switches which parts come from which warehouse. I wanted to place an order with 3 different parts. The first two parts were coming from the same warehouse A, and the third part was coming from warehouse B. Then I decided to delete the third item from warehouse B.
RockAuto is generally considered a reliable online store, and many people I know have ordered without problems. The price difference for NGK laser iridium spark plugs between AutoZone and RockAuto is quite significant. But prices can vary between retailers, and RockAuto is known for offering discounted prices.
A lot of the Canadians on this board use Rock Auto for auto parts. I really like their prices, even with shipping to Canada. They have the border crossing thing figured out and even their website can be configured to quote prices in Canadian dollars. One question that arises is how expensive is it to return parts or cores. Parts
I would make sure you and Rockauto are on the same page, as to where the cores are going, before you send them anywhere. I hope so, as they got the shipping label for me, with their address on it. All I need to do is to tape it to the box and drop it off, and they'll deduct the shipping charge from the return. [Decided against store credit.]
