Dolor Davis was born about 1599 in Kent, England. He married Margery Willard daughter of Richard Willard of Horsemonden, yeomen in Parish church, East Farleigh, Kent, England March 29, 1624. Margery was baptized at Horsemonden, November 7, 1602, and died before 1667. Margery's brother Simon would become a lifelong friend of Dolor Davis.
