If so, you're looking at something like a go-pro or a phone with a mount and an app that records video, gps, etc. You'll need to recharge it between uses and manually clean out the memory card when it fills up. Most cabled dashcams can have the cables tucked behind the headliner, pillar cover, weatherstripping, etc.

The best front + rear dash cam money can buy, recording is all I need. Hey. I'm in the market for new rear + front dash cam. What I need is basically recording / auto recording events with SD Card (preferably 512 GB). I don't need parking mode, I don't need cloud, I don't need LTE or WiFi.

So the viofo a229 lineup and the a139 pro have the starvis 2. To sum up my point it's that the only dashcams worth buying are the ones with the starvis 2 sensor, all others are trash. I just got the display ride, $25 ($20 after promotion) a month. It uploads the recording to the cloud and saves it for 7 days.

  7. Why don't new cars come equipped with dash cameras? : r/cars -...

Title says it all. This especially applies to luxury vehicles that have high-framerate 360° cameras. I know most vehicles come with reverse cameras now, and some even have cameras in the front as well. It makes little sense to have this technology built into the vehicle and still have to go buy a camera that sticks to the dash.

    www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/9ms05t/why_dont_builtin_dash_cams_come_standard...

Luxury cars nowadays have internet connectivity, large hard drives, microphones in the interior and cameras all over the car, including forward facing ones that read speed limit signs. If there was this conspiracy to secretly record and track drivers, auto manufacturers have had that option for a long time now and a built in dash cam wouldn't ...

For those who demand the best, high-end dash cams range from $250 to $500 or more. These devices boast superior video quality (up to 4K), dual-channel recording (front and rear views), cloud connectivity, built-in GPS, and integration with smartphone apps.

  10. Any reason car makers don't offer a built in dashcam?

    www.reddit.com/r/askcarsales/comments/l05o3u/any_reason_car_makers_dont_offer...

What you fail to realize is that for half of America, a dash cam is more of a liability than a protection. GM ran into trouble with "valet mode" on their 2014 Corvette. It recorded video and audio, and while video is fine, audio recordings without consent are illegal in a bunch of states.

  11. Why don’t we just create cars with built in cameras : r/Cartalk -...

    www.reddit.com/.../171edzu/why_dont_we_just_create_cars_with_built_in_cameras

Yes, the person who asked this doesn't know much (about cars). As stated above, the cost of updating an aftermarket dash cam is much cheaper than servicing a built-in (as old as your car) camera. Anyone who paid for the optional built-in GPS that was offered with their new car will understand why it isn't cost effective for the car owner.
