It is situated in the De Kaap Valley and is fringed by the Makhonjwa Mountains. It is 43 kilometres (27 mi) south of Mbombela and 360 kilometres (220 mi) east of Johannesburg.
History. The school opened its doors in 1956. In 2016 Pieter Ferreira became the principal of the school. In 2018, Barberton High School burned to the ground. [1][2] The school has been rebuilt. In 2021, the school briefly closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3]
The Barberton Mountain is a well preserved pre-3.0 Ga granite-greenstone terrane. The greenstone belt consists of a sequence of mafic to ultramafic lavas and metasedimentary rocks emplaced and deposited between 3.5 and 3.2 Ga. The granitoid rocks were emplaced over a 500 million year time span and can be divided into two suites.
