  2. Fines for overstaying in Schengen and for how many days of limit...

The Schengen rules we're discussing are for visa-free travel for short periods of time. If 90 days won't be enough, it's not hard to get a tourist visa to lengthen your stay (I believe they're good for six months at a time). If I thought I might be close, I'd send for a visa. Getting a work permit is a completely different story.

American citizens with U.S. passports may visit any combination of Schengen countries as tourists, without a visa, for an accumulated total of 90 days out of each 180-day period. The clock starts ticking at first entry into a country in the Schengen zone, and leaving the Schengen zone stops but does not clear and re-start that 180-day clock.

Before my wife became a US citizen, we went through the hoops of getting a Schengen visa for her several times. There was never any need to show train tickets. Unless something has changed, here is all they should need from you: 1. A general travel plan - without too many specifics.

But Schengen counts the first and last day as separate days. In the example, 6/24/22 minus 12/27/21 gives you 179 days between dates, but by Schengen counting, it's 180 days. In Lola's example above, assuming you leave on the 10th of Jan, that's 15 days (14 days between dates plus 1).

Posted by peterv (Tucson, AZ) on 03/30/24 08:06 PM. My wife is not an American citizen and so needs a Schengen visa. I have been trying unsuccessfully for two weeks to book an appointment on the LA Italian Consulate website. I have tried all hours of the day and night and get the same message that all appointments are filled and to try back later.

  7. Crossing Borders On Trains & Passports - Rick Steves Travel Forum

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/crossing-borders-on...

The Schengen Area was designed for the benefit of the inhabitants. EU and Schengen Area citizens can travel to other EU/Schengen countries without restriction or time limit. Checking ID's on borders became a huge waste of time and money, as 99.9% of the border crossers had no restrictions or stamps.

These arrangements allow US passport holders to stay for a specified period beyond the 90-day Schengen limit. The Schengen Area nations with bilateral visa-waiver reciprocal agreements with the US are listed below, along with the maximum permitted length of stay in each case: Belgium (3 months) Denmark (3 months) Italy (3 months) Hungary (90 ...

Northamptonshire, England. 07/04/13 07:03 PM. 33469 posts. I expect that very few of us here know all the ins and outs of an Austrian Type D Visa. I would be surprised if the Austrian authorities would allow piggybacking of the visa and visa waiver programme on the same trip without returning first to the OP's home.

  11. Do I Have to Leave and Come Back to Renew Schengen 180 Day Rule?

    community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/do-i-have-to-leave-and...

Here's my interpretation of the rule: Your 180-day "clock" started on July 7. It therefore expires on approximately January 8. On January 8th, you will have used up your 89 or 90 days, depending on how you count. At that point, you must exit the Schengen zone and wait 90 days before you can re-enter.
