Note the bolted on backing plates. I had upgraded from the weld on MH style when I refurbished the axles. The brakes can be purchased for $60/ wheel assembled on a new backing plate. $60, 5 bolts, 2 wires, done. R&P Carriages carries the flanges that match the backing plates for whatever your axle tube diameter is.
You can not find 15" tires that would be rated any where close to what the 14.5's are. you won't find any 15's that will have the load rating you need. 16's with a load rating even close the 14.5's will be too big to fit your trailer. Thats why the 14.5 size continues to be used under lowboy trailers, even new ones.
The inner and outer bearings match sets used on 6 and 7k axles, so we know the mobile home (MH) spindles are the right diameter as far as being able to take the reg hubs. The only thing left would be to measure the spacing between the bearings on the regular hubs and MH hubs or reg spindles and MH spindles.

The axles I have seen are 5200 or 6000 lb rated based on the wall thickness of the axle tube, it should be stamped on the tube. I use to run an LT tire on mine.
They are rated at 2700 lbs each. Mine aren't mobile home axles, in fact, I believe they are Dexter brand axles rated at 6000lbs each. Many of these "low platform" equipment trailers use these type of axles, and I believe its due to the availability of 28" tall tires that are 14 ply and rated at over 3000 lbs each.
The rims are the old Dexter style open hub 14.5's, and take an 8-14.5 tire. Problem is, I haven't had any luck finding suggestions on a decent tire that will fit. Most all seem to be Chinese manufactured, and are hit or miss on quality (at least according to the reviews). You can get a set of 4x delivered for $260, but reviews are all over the ...

8-Lug 15" beadlocks for sale. They sell good used (like nearly new) tires mounted on heavy duty rims (if you notice, most of the mobile home rims are only rated for 1800#) for about $50. They've got 7-14.5, 8-14.5 & even some 9-14.5, all the way up to the LR-E 3300# tires. They've also got wheel seals, grease caps, brakes, etc for ridiculously ...

While looking through an Amazon ad for the tire, found a deal on a pair of 8-14.5s for $109, but shipping was $49. Looks like the load range for these tires are ...
They aren't true mobile home tires unless they measure out over DOT width (104, 106, something like that, again, iirc) and have welded steel backplates. My 6/7k dexter axles under my equipment trailer have the same style wheels but they are bolt on backplates. I've serviced mine and they have given me lots of good life.
