This is something that got buried in the recent Titanfall BR stuff, but it's common knowledge that Titanfall 2's release date was a disastrous one, sandwiched between much larger games. What is not common knowledge, but what I've heard vague rumblings of before, is that it was Respawn's leadership that chose to launch where it did.
Titanfall 2 release date was not an EA decision but an internal Respawn decision as reported by Jason Schreier. Also Titanfall 2 had multiple resurgences in playercount over the years only to lose those players a few days or weeks laters. Titanfall 1 while it sold better than Titanfall 2 had similar problems retaining players.
Titanfall 2's multiplayer is still absolutely fantastic. I fucking love Titanfall 2. The game's December-March resurgence, powered by the PS Plus giveaway, was the greatest Christmas present I've ever received. I'm happy that Respawn found a hit with Apex and Fallen Order, but sad it means that Titanfall 3 is way off the table. I can only dream.

I wonder if EA is looking to move away from Origin now? It can't be cheap. And they must have concluded it wasn't worthwhile. How to retire it though without everyone losing their purchases, that's the question. No, the strategy is simply to put out games in front of as many people as possible...
Anyway, hopefully even just some of these players stick with it, because Titanfall 2 is a truly awesome game. I'm personally of the belief that a game isn't "dead" whilever I can routinely find a full game within a couple of minutes, so even if the Steam release results in a couple of thousand players sticking around it'll be worth it.
Usually on the working days, Titanfall 2's avg worldwide players on PC would be around 800-1500, right now it has made a jump to 3400 this Saturday. On the PS4, TF2 would usually be around 2k players at this time, it has more than doubled that number right now.

Woof @ that trailer thumbnail, that looks like shit. The actual trailer definitely felt like what was going on inside the suits had nothing to do with the cool Titanfall shit that was happening outside of the suit. I'm a sucker for sci fi but... I'm pretty meh on this. Esp considering it's Netflix whose track record doesn't exactly blow my hair ...
