History. Historic Germantown is Nashville's oldest neighborhood. Immigrants from Germany began to build homes there in the 1840s. [1] The area was established as Germantown in the 1850s. The boundaries of the district are Jefferson Street, third Avenue North, Taylor Street and Eight Avenue North. [2] The area encompasses 18 city blocks. [1]

Added to NRHP. December 30, 1969. Travellers Rest, also known as Golgotha, [2] is a former plantation and historic plantation house, located in Nashville, Tennessee. The first owner of the site was John Overton in 1796, who built the first family home in 1799. [2] For many years this plantation was worked and maintained by enslaved Black people.
The neighborhood was formed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the structures feature many different architectural styles. [1] The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Davidson County, Tennessee on April 24, 1980. The district is found Interstate 265 in Tennessee and U.S. Route 41.
Cheekwood is a 55-acre (22 ha) historic estate on the western edge of Nashville, Tennessee that houses the Cheekwood Estate & Gardens. Formerly the residence of Nashville's Cheek family, the 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m 2) Georgian -style mansion was opened as a botanical garden and art museum in 1960.
In 1784 it was incorporated as a town by the North Carolina legislature. The Southwest Territory became the state of Tennessee in 1796 and Nashville became an incorporated city in 1806. In 1843 it became the state capital of Tennessee. In the Civil War Nashville was seized by Federal troops in 1862 and became a major Union military base.
