Primghar is a city in, and the county seat of, O'Brien County, Iowa, United States. [2] The population was 896 at the time of the 2020 census . [ 3 ] Primghar is 23.5 miles south of Iowa State Highway 9 , 28 miles east of Sioux Center and 6.75 miles north of Iowa State Highway 10 .

Added to NRHP. July 2, 1981. The O'Brien County Courthouse is located in Primghar, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource. [1] The courthouse is the fourth building the county has used for court functions and county administration.
Welch was born in Primghar, Iowa, on October 22, 1890, the seventh and youngest child of English immigrants Martha (Thyer) and William Welch. [1] [2] He attended Grinnell College and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1914, then attended Harvard Law School and graduated in 1917, magna cum laude, with the second highest grade point average in his graduating class. [1]
