Long Answer: Because the amount of Crystal you get is never enough to guarantee a character assuming you hit hard pity both times. On first time purchase you get like 12k crystals. And next subsequent purchase you get around 8k. Since Genshin isn't power creeping anyone anytime soon, most whales whale because that's how whales work.
Received 12960 genesis crystals. Basically the title; I opened genshin a couple days ago and got hit with the notification that I had 12960 crystals (I have never spent money on genshin, never planned to). Definitely not a gift from someone I know, could possibly be a random person on twitter because my public account has my UID on it.
