It's like they really don't want you to set a custom sound to the system text message app, but setting a custom txt msg sound to a specific contact is super easy and intuitive. Makes zero sense.

have you checked in Messages settings to see if Notification sounds are turned on . Open Samsung Messages then click the 3 dots on the right then click settings then Notifications then click on General Notifications and see if theres a Sound listed if not add one then go back and click on new messages which is right below General Notifications and see what it has listed

I have been trying to find a way to make my text notifications have a different sound from my other app notifications. Example calendar reminder notifications and Kindle are the same tone as a text. I really need text messages to have a unique tone of their own so I don't miss them while ignoring non-priority items.
We've been told to switch to Google messaging, which I have done, but have an issue: I want to get a unique notification sound for a new text message. Can anyone tell me how to set that up? My phone is ATT-based. None of the searches I've done online give me an answer that works.
Hey there! I can certainly understand wanting to turn off the sound when sending text messages! Go to your Messages app Click the three dots in the top right-hand corner Go to settings Turn off the 'Hear outgoing messages' I hope this helps!

I have always been able to go to my settings in messenger and change the notification sound for my text messages until recently. I now have one notification for most apps. I've looked to see if it was moved haven't found the settings. Can anyone help or is this the results of the new update?

I've sorted it through opening text 'messages' - settings - notifications - then press 'and hold (2 or 3 seconds)' New Messages - (release and further options appear) - check that 'alert' is active - check that ' sound' isn't silent (set your own message alert tone) - and lock screen is 'show content'..
