Unfortunately, playing disc-based games on an Xbox Series S is not possible due to the console not having a disc drive. Game copies can't be converted from physical to digital, and vice versa. Xbox is not a PC, and while it uses many fo the same technologies, it is a secure platform, and the games will not work. of you wish to purchase PC games, buy a PC.
So basically, I can't play my physical games on my older console if my daughters are using Game Pass on the Series S (even though I'm not using Game Pass games on the Xbox One!). The ONLY solution I can see is that I wipe my Xbox One and sign in with a new MS account, losing all of my save games, achievements and access to my digital purchases.
It is normal for you to have the option to pre-order the Xbox Series X|S version of the game on your Xbox One console. This way, if you decide to upgrade to an Xbox Series X|S in the future, you can simply sign in to your account and download the game to your new console. The Xbox One version comes out April 4.
This is a matter of preference, regardless you will have to install this title onto your new console once you recieve it. If you plan on continuing to play the game, while you wait for the new console, then I would reccomend purchasing it now. However, if you can hold off, it wouldn't actually make a difference.
