Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer [Rock] Also for those who didn’t know, the claymation for this video was “the big break” for Aardman Animations who later went on to do Wallace & Grommit and Shaun the Sheep. My uni lecturers were both animators on this video. Used to blow my mind, the stories they would tell.

Sadly, the answers provided so far are not correct. It was during the recording of "Big Time" that Jerry Marotta (not Stewart Copland) hit the bass strings with drum sticks. In the liner notes of So it's credited as "drumstick bass". This lead to the eventual development of Funk Fingers so that Tony could do it live on stage.

I'm 36 and just found out that Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer is a metaphor for his penis. My crew at work just added several people so we've been making a lot of general conversation. Sledgehammer came up at one point and they talked about how sexual it is. I actually didn't believe them at first, but apparently it's obvious.

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer (Isolated Tracks) Like the IYE video, I just made a quick thing to upload where people can peruse the various tracks of Sledgehammer (Drums, Bass, Guitar, Piano, Prophet 5 organ synth, Horns, Lead Vocals, Background Vocals). Love listening to the guitar work and the piano, as it is fairly buried in the full mix.

Though their initial push, From Genesis to Revelation sticks with many idioms of late 60s pop, Nursery Crime leaps into a truly rarified artistic realm where the band remained until Peter Gabriel's departure. Even after, everyone involved went on to make much more music clearly influenced by those extraordinary years when Peter Gabriel was ...

I'm undertaking a little project at the moment in recreating Peter Gabriel's 80's hit Sledgehammer and it has a very distinctive prophet 5 patch that I just can't recreate. I was wonder whether any of you know how to recreate that sounds. Below is the original song and the song with all of its synth sounds isolated.

Normal songs about normal things. Sledgehammer was his tamest song. “Kiss That Frog” is another good one! Don’t delay, dock the dick. The first 40 seconds of the video is a not-so-subtle hint that it’s about A penis. A "Peter" is actually a nickname for a penis. so his name is already Penis Gabriel.
