Software development. The V-model is a graphical representation of a systems development lifecycle. It is used to produce rigorous development lifecycle models and project management models. The V-model falls into three broad categories, the German V-Modell, a general testing model, and the US government standard. [ 2]
Waterfall model. The waterfall model is a breakdown of development activities into linear sequential phases, meaning they are passed down onto each other, where each phase depends on the deliverables of the previous one and corresponds to a specialization of tasks. [ 1] The approach is typical for certain areas of engineering design.

In software development, the V-model[ 2] represents a development process that may be considered an extension of the waterfall model and is an example of the more general V-model.
