General Motors Co. is slashing the price of its plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt by $5,000, making it the latest automaker to lower prices of electric vehicles in the face of lagging consumer demand. The Detroit-based automaker said it will cut the base price 12.5 percent, from $39,995 to $34,995.

I was just offered the following lease for a 2017 Volt Premier in Santa Barbara, Calif. I've never leased a car so I don't know if this is good or not. Price: 39883 - $6504 reduction for the federal rebate and the cap cash reduction = 33,379. APR 1.94 for 39 mo./10k per year. Residual: 48%.

Comment: In fact the Chevy Volt is a plug-in hybrid and it has more in common with conventional "series-parallel" hybrids like the Toyota Prius than the marketing hype led us to believe. There are circumstances in which the Volt operates with the internal combustion engine directly driving the front wheels.
