267 posts · Joined 2014. #4 · Aug 23, 2019. I picked up the Tristar Uplander 20ga Walmart special a few months ago for $360 out the door with the same uses as you in mind. Couple of hundred shells through it so far and it is working as expected, no complaints. Guess I will see how it holds up over time.
But they cannot be low powered rounds. The KRX Tactical was designed for defense and full high-power shells. The Reminton 1187 Tactical Shotguns were exactly like yours. No small shot light load shells could be used in them. We initially thought we would use 7 1/2 Shot Shell light loads for training!
Tristar Upland Hunter, 26” barrel, 20ga and this thing is light. It really doesnt look to bad and the quality seems to be decent, definitely nothing to write home about but decent. Tristar Raptor not feeding. Trying to fix a Tristar Raptor 20 guage. Gun was taken to a gunsmith to fix a stuck shell. Said Smith removed stuck shell and reassembled shotgun, but now it won't load shells from magazine tube. I've checked assembly and everything is assembled back properly. Knocked down any burs or rough edges that did not allow the weapon to cycle smoothly and polished all moving parts with a dremel polishing kit.

Here's one to keep an eye out for at pawn shops and gun shops. Look for the Mossberg 200 d or 200 k. 12 ga, mag fed pump action, built on a BA receiver. looks like a 195 with the bolt handle cut off, and a plastic fore end slide. Picked up a paid, one d, one k, at an estate sale back in 2011 for less than $250.
