This should be a wholesome place for premeds to discuss premed-related topics. Being overly neurotic is unhelpful and adds personal stress in addition to placing the burden of your stress on others. Timing is different depending on an individual’s circumstances and the opportunities available to them. I have taken gap years myself - just like what you said, spend a huge chunk of time on research then do some more volunteering in my gap years. But the premed experience can also be very diverse.

I relied almost entirely on my compilation of knowledge from online sources like this subreddit and SDN. I did meet with some advisors in person, but I always took their advice with a grain of salt. Sometimes they gave good advice and other times they didn’t. Imo premed clubs can be useless and cut throat for no reason.

Depending on what schools you apply to and whether or not you have to pay for primaries/secondaries, it’s probably a good idea to save up at least $2000-5000 dollars, particularly if you are applying to several schools out-of-state (this might be an overestimate for some people, but better to be safe than sorry).

BS/MD or BS/DO-> If you don’t know what these are, they are accelerated or guaranteed admissions into med school that you apply for as a high school student. Most are 7-8 years but I’ve seen one (UMKC) that is 6. Typically, the selectively varies between programs (pitt is like 0.02% while others are actually feasible).

  11. Non-trads, has anyone taken online classes for pre reqs?

Avoid at all costs. As a non-trad you don't need to stack the cards against you. Even at a four-year university, you would need to justify pre-req classes that are taken online. Most medical schools will not even accept online pre-reqs taken in a distance-learning format outside of the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
