After some investigation, I realised that although there's a lot of pages about the real-life soldiers, there's none that show them side-by-side with the actors. So i've started a page collecting images of the following: As they were during the war. In their later years. Their portrayal in the series. The actor more recently.

Here's a list of the veterans in the pre-episode interviews and their quotes. Some of the men weren't in the show, some had small roles, and some were main characters. I wrote quick descriptions of the not so obvious characters. Episode 1: "We were in a store and a guy in that store... ": Joseph Lesniewski.

For those of us that loved Band of Brothers, the Pacific and Saving Private Ryan were both made by the same people (Hanks and Spielberg). They're working together again on a new project based on the book Masters of the Air by Donald Miller, which details WWII bomber crews based in Europe. John Orloff (who wrote 2 episodes for Band of Brothers ...

The soldiers of Easy Company, as interviewed on HBO's "Band of Brothers". That last line "Grandpa said no, but I served in a company of heroes" gets me every time. For those who have never seen the mini series it is a must see.

Just finished the band of brothers companion podcast. The writer of the episode talked about this. He said that Malarkey actually met the guy a few days after the invasion, but that wouldn’t work for the story, so either they lump that guy in with the people Speirs killed or they didn’t show him meeting a dude from Oregon at all.

In Band of Brothers, Donald Malarkey asks a German POW where he is from. He is surprised to hear Eugene, Oregon and the POW explains his family "answered the call" for all true Aryans to return to Germany. How common was it for German/Austrian-Americans to leave the USA and return to Germany?

Robert Leckie was in the How Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. Chuck Tatum was in the Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Marines, 5th Marine Division. John Basilone was in the "D" Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. Hard to keep it locked in when you spread it out like that.

Following are the relevant excerpts. p. 334: German M.P.s helped to make it interesting. One for each of us, they were big, tired men who had seen service as infantry in the First World War and as combat M.P.s in this one. They wore as their badge of office a heavy neck chain bearing a brassard with the word "Feldgendarmerie" inscribed on it in ...

I am writing a paper on the accuracy of Band of Brothers and I have looked through most of the preexisting related threads but I have not found one discussing the age portrayal of the actors compared to the actual soldiers. My gut instinct is that the age of the actors is, in general, 5-10 years older than that of the actual WWII soldiers.
