1880–1919. St Peter's church was built 1704, a second parish church for Liverpool. In 1880 the Diocese of Liverpool was created from part of the Diocese of Chester, with St Peter's as its pro-cathedral. Building of a cathedral began in 1904, opening 1919 when St Peter's was closed (demolished 1922).
