Create a new layer above the "trees" layer called "vegetation". Set layer style settings close to your "trees" layer [see my settings in the image, below]. Then choose a smaller stipple brush set to 40-50% opacity and fill. With various greens, browns, etc. either dab or draw in ground cover.

This was created with the Role-playing City Map Generator, then I cut the area out of my world map, scaled it up, then in to Wilbur, then cut a slice of the resulting regional map, and back to Wilbur. The buildings were then selected and I used the Mosiac filter set to squared and hexes to get the roof tops to look like that.

The answer is yes, yes you can and it looks okay-ish: To Hex Map.png Pretty decent actually, if you consider that the map is procedually generated. Everything you see is generated by Azgaar's. All I did was import the information into QGIS and use QGIS to style it using SVG icons created from Thorfinn Taits Illustrator tools.
