Those awful old names that all those haggy old '70s high school girls had. The worst names ever: Jennifer, Lisa, Brenda, Donna, Cheryl, Lori, Samantha, Crissy, Kristy. Ugh. Those are worse and more old timey than Hagatha or gertrude. Has to be a troll. No one thinks of those names as old timey or ugly. I know plenty of young women with those names.
I grew up in predominantly Asian neighborhoods around LA in the 80s and a lot of girls had super old-fashioned names: Agnes, Ruth, Eunice, Margaret. It was also common for boys as well: Stanley, Walter, Duncan. I was also amused at the first and last name combinations—Eunice Kim, Stanley Park etc.
A lot of the names we associate with white trash or hillbillies are actually very old biblical names. Jethro=father in law to Moses Jebidiah (Jeb) or Jedidiah (Jed) = Beloved of Yahweh Elijah (Eli) = My God is Yahweh. The reason we associate these old names with hillbillies is because the Scots/Irish that came over early settled in the mountains.

To me these names are more classic than old lady. The former ebb and flow, but continue through the centuries, never incredibly trendy but also not shunned.. The latter are very trendy for a generation, and when that generation becomes old, the names themselves are irrevocably linked to being old, and fall out of use.
