The Giza pyramid complex (also called the Giza necropolis) in Egypt is home to the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx. All were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, between c. 2600 – c. 2500 BC.
The Great Pyramid of Giza[a]is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It served as the tomb of pharaohKhufu, who ruled during the Fourth Dynastyof the Old Kingdom. Built c. 2600 BC,[3]over a period of about 27 years,[4]the pyramid is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only wonder that has remained largely intact.
The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the Giza pyramids are counted among the largest structures ever built. The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest Egyptian pyramid and the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence, despite being the oldest by about 2,000 years.

Much of Egypt's ancient history was a mystery until Egyptian hieroglyphs were deciphered with the discovery and deciphering of the Rosetta Stone.
