The band split up on 27 September 2001. [2] During this time, Brown experienced depression and attempted suicide. [3] After the disbandment, Brown devoted his time to charity work and several protests against Iraq War. [4] In 2006 Five attempted a comeback without Conlon, but failed to sign with a new label and the band disbanded again.
The Minus 5 made their live debut at the Crocodile Cafe on November 9, 1993, on a bill supporting jangly indie heroes The Silos. As Auer and Stringfellow were in Europe touring behind the Posies' Frosting On The Beater, the Minus 5 performed as a duo with backing from The Silos' Walter Salas-Humara, Tom Freund and Manuel Versoza for the last three songs.
