Coaching career. Dye returned to the Los Angeles area after earning his degree and served as head boys' basketball coach at St. John Bosco High School of Bellflower, California from 1962 to 1965. St. John Bosco made a school-high 18–7 record in the 1963–64 season. From 1965 to 1967, Dye was an assistant coach at Cerritos Junior College.
