After hunting for an entire season with a rock climbing harness I figured I would do a quick write up, especially after the recent accident. I got the idea from another site, where there is a very lengthy discussion on the topic. A lot of other hunters have made the switch and are very happy.
MSUFW07. Whether you wear it on the inside or the outside of a coat you want it tight enough that you can fit a fist between yourself and the vest or strap across your chest and a flat hand between the strap and your boys, as a general rule of thumb. To loose on the leg straps and your going to be singing a few octaves higher when you fall.

I do think there is a higher risk getting into a hang on than a ladder stand but it is still a risk and a lifeline is simple to add and easy to use.

My go to size Blade for the St. Clair system is #4 colorado. In the Indiana style I go with #5. This usually works for me.
If the only tree you have to work with is wide open you could cut some 3/4" to 1" pvc in 1" lengths and ty-wrap a few around the base of your hang-on. You can then cut some branches less than 1" in size and stick the cut end into the pvc to build up some cover. Reply Like. Ray Duve. 740 posts · Joined 2004.
Just a heads up, I got an email from Meindl saying that they have a new boot available stateside now. It is a 7 inch hiker. It is available in insulated, and uninsulated, as well as in wide widths. There’s been a migration in the upland world toward using light hikers Instead of stiff boots, and Meindl finally has a product in that category.

Gabe mentioned that on this coming week's MUCC, MI Out of Doors show they'll be sharing a few memories of Howard Shelley and the old show.

Today a good 90% of my stand hunting is from a treestand. The only disadvantage is that moving locations can be a pain with ladderstands or hang ons.
