Running Google Chrome Version 66.0.3359.139 (Official Build) (64-bit), on Windows 10 (x64). Chrome has been functioning perfectly fine on my wife's machine until the last day or two when suddenly, whenever she opens a new instance of Chrome, things have been behaving weirdly.

I have right clicked the Chrome tray icon and accidentally clicked 'Hide from tray' instead of 'Quit'. I tried looking into 'Task bar' -> 'Notification area - select which icons appear on task bar', but Chrome is not in there.
If you weren't logged in, you may still be in luck. Chrome stores bookmarks locally in a file that resides in its AppData folder C:\Users\[your user account]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default. There might be a file there called 'Bookmarks.bak'. If so, just remove '.bak' from the end so it's simply called 'Bookmarks' and relaunch Chrome.
I'm running Chrome 15.0.874.121 (WinXP) and the download bar appears whenever I download a file. I see no option to change this behaviour.
I run Chrome tiled, side by side and notice the status bar disappearing from time to time. To get it back, I create a new empty tab and then drag my already open tabs to that new empty one. The status bar reappears. I can then close the empty one where the status bar had disappeared and retile to get everything arranged the way I want it.
User on my estate is having a strange issue in that the entire top bar of applications vanishes. Completely too, so not hidden and just contains a white box. Its happened at first to just chrome and then egde with the tabs, favourites and navigation bars vanishing, and now teams too. Teams missing top bar:
Try the right-most icon on the menu bar. Chrome sometimes changes it to let you know something needs your attention. (E.g., to restart Chrome for an update.) Or you can use Alt-F to open the menu from the keyboard.
This issue is addressed in the Chrome bug report Issue 1215708: Option to remove tab search. This issue is labelled as "Type: Bug-Regression", which gives hope that making the icon "Tab Search" permanent may not have been intentional, so there is still hope for the future. Your best option is voting for this issue and waiting.
