  2. Doing a speed test from PC to PC, etc may not be accurate because your computing power might need to be very powerful in order to push that kind of data. CAT6A would guarantee up to 90 meters whereas CAT 7 would be guaranteed for 100 meters for 10Gbps speed.-- At last, the cables may not matter because you may just have 1Gigabit network links.

  3. Well you can just look at the network in the control panel and see if the LAN is connected at 10/100/1000 mbit. But that doesn't tell you the whole story. If you want to test the speed between two PCs, you really need a tool to do it.

    If it still doesn't work, try resetting the Network Speed app; Press Windows key + i and go to Applications; Click Apps and Features; Locate the network speed app and click on the three dots on the right to access Advanced Options; Scroll down and click Reset; Now try to check if the app shows the upload speed;

  6. The idea is to test the throughput of both of these ports using the shortest possible cable length. I have already connected the two ports. One of the connections is identified as Network 6, and I have chosen Home as network type to make it discoverable. The other one got stuck at "identifying".

  8. I have four devices, Windows 8.1 laptop (mine), Windows 10 laptop, iPhone SE, Android phone, connected to the same network and the Windows 8.1. laptop has a significantly slower download speed (~15 Mbps) than any other device (~100 Mbps for the phones, ~120 Mbps for the Windows 10 laptop).

  9. Please add the OS and router model you have. BTW, you can connect the laptop both wired and wireless (eventually with a virtual network device), and test the transfer data speed between the two connections (The bottleneck is the wireless connection).

  10. internet - Why is my actual download speed less than that found...

    superuser.com/questions/617386/why-is-my-actual-download-speed-less-than-that...

    I ran my Internet connection through SpeedTest.net which claims that it finds out the actual Internet speed, much lower than that promised by my ISP. But—while downloading—the speed is much lesser than the test results. Even after using download mangers like Internet Download Manager, there isn’t much difference.

  11. I can speed test both locations of course, but that isn't necessarily representative of the actual throughput between the two points. Given the different ISP's and service speeds, I imagine I'd get different results depending on which end I test from. One connection has 3x the upload speed making it the better server end I believe.
