-- Last Updated: Aug-30-16 3:25 PM EST -- Thank you for having me. I would like to buy a modular (sectional), hard-shell, tandem paddlecat or kayak, for no more than $1200 USD. Please kindly advise me. Location is Texas USA. Application type is < 6 hrs short paddling trip, calm/flat/easy waters, family recreational (non-picky) and apartment dweller. I have the following two commercial options ...
I’m looking to kayak in rivers and open waters (Great Lakes), and coastal seawater in the future. I’ve done some research and there are only a few foldables and modular boats that fit the criteria. For foldables (I’m talking about skin-on-frame, not origami boats like Oru), the only one under $2000 is the Quest 150 from Pakboats.
Both the 14’ Pakayak and the solo Point 65 Martini weigh a whopping 59 pounds. A 12’ Pakboat Puffin Saco folding kayak weighs 24 pounds and fits in a sports duffel bag or a standard rolling suitcase. Even their 15’ Quest model only weighs 31 pounds (nearly half that of the plastic modulars).
In contrast, the photo below is of my 12’ Pakboat folding kayak in a carry-on sized rolling duffel 32" x 14" x 16". The kayak itself is only 24 pounds (all the boat parts are on the left in the “unpacked” shot) and I had all the gear I needed for a trip packed with it including a paddle, spray skirt, PFD, float bags, inflatable car roof ...
I would like to design my own modular touring style sea kayak from an older fiberglass boat. I have been looking for different designs and I have seen photos of the Ukai Adventurer but I think it may be too difficult to duplicate. I saw photos of an older modular composite boat but I couldn’t find a name or good pictures/videos of how it works. If you know of any modular kayak designs I ...
I have had a Point 65 Sweden Tequila GTX Solo Modular Kayak for about five years and love it. It is a sit on top kayak that splits in two! It paddles well on quiet water, lakes, and slow moving rivers etc. I have found it to be well made, comfortable and pretty rugged. It is designed and made in Sweden .
The modular kayak works for me because we live in a small space in downtown Vancouver, BC with no safe place to store a full size kayak and marina storage is prohibitively expensive. We live three blocks from the beach and I’m trying to figure out a way to get this three section modular kayak down there without having to load it piece by ...
I’ve owned 8 different models of folding kayaks over the years, from a 24 pound 12’ rec boat to a 15’ 9" sea kayak and 16’ hybrid folding/inflatable sit on top. 2 Likes Home
A rep from Point 65 got back to me today and confirmed that the older Taquila modular kayaks only had a removable back rest and no d-rings for adding a proper, padded kayak seat. They removed the back rest in favour of the air seat a couple of years ago because (surprise, surprise) customers complained about the discomfort of sitting on hard ...
Paddlers' Place. Greyone June 28, 2016, 12:44am #1. Check out the The Pakayak Bluefin 14 take apart kayak - a hard-shell 14-foot kayak that nests inside itself to 3 1/2 feet and packs into a bag. On Kickstarter. Check it out. willowleaf June 29, 2016, 2:32pm #2. impractical. I checked it out. Nothing new there.
