Hospitals in Illinois. Ascension Health St. Mary's Hospital (formerly Presence St. Mary's Hospital, AMITA Health St. Mary’s) is a non-profit hospital in Kankakee, Illinois. [2] [1] It is a 182-bed acute care facility with a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center. It is part of the Ascension healthcare system.
AMITA Health was an interfaith health system, a joint venture between Alexian Brothers Health System and Presence Health (both part of Ascension) and Adventist Midwest Health (part of AdventHealth ). [1] As of 2021, AMITA operated 19 hospitals and hundreds of medical offices, among other facilities. In 2022, the joint venture was broken up.
Saint Francis Hospital of Evanston was founded in 1900 by the pastor of the nearby St. Nicholas Church ( Roman Catholic ). Resurrection Health Care took over Saint Francis Hospital in 1977. When Resurrection Health Care merged with Provena Health to form Presence Health in 2011, the hospital was renamed Presence Saint Francis Hospital. [3]
