We are a couple months into living in our "new to us" house which is about 12 years old. The purchase came with a 1-year home warranty through American Home Shield. The AHS policy shows there's a $100 service call per service, and it sounds like AHS selects the service providers. So if we needed a plumber for one thing and an electrician for ...
Pretty sure that no Home Warranty covers emergency services. We have been with American Home Shield for years, I know they don't cover emergency services for A/C so if needed I come out of pocket for that. Lately we have been thinking of dropping them and just putting that money into a separate "Home Maintenance" savings account.
A previous home warranty company we had in another state gave us a $5 increase in the service call fee in a 4-year time period, and they NEVER increased the premium amount from one year to the next!! We have been told by AHS that ALL of their customers have received an increase this year in their yearly premiums and service call fees.

I have a $7k HSA family deductible with BCBSTN on the S Network. I added maternity coverage and dental. This plan has worked well for me, but I have not had to use it out of the area.
The costs of the insurance is $4.49 per month for water line protection and $8.47 per month for sewer line protection. On paper, it seems like a decent deal especially if the pipes from your home to the street are old. At the same time, after some research, the company AWR is getting mixed reviews.
