As part of its clever tricks, Adguard app inserts a script which is loaded from local.adguard.org. Now this address translates (via DNS) into 176.103.133.77 which is a 'magic' address. When the browser makes a connection to this IP address, Adguard app intercepts it and processes it locally.
Safari 13 is severely grippled Adblocker-wise, unfortunately. Switched to Chrome (+ uBlock Origin) because of that. Nothing from the Safari-Blockers comes even close. Tested AdGuard (blocked not as much, made browsing slower), 1Blocker, Wipr and others – nothing compares to uBlock Origin.
I tried Hyperweb which is a very comprehensive ad blocker and content blocker with other perks like embedded dark mode for safari so instead of having 2 or 3 extension this one does it all while keeping the web surfing quite fast. But as for privacy I can’t say if they do collect data or not.
Aug 7, 2024. #3. Firefox and uBlock origin. YouTube ads will still make it through because they are now integrated with the video. YouTube premium is the fix for that. Scepticalscribe, macdaddy43, winxmac and 1 other person. S.
211. Dec 7, 2020. #24. Tried them all, Adguard is the only one that blocks everything consistently. It's not even close IMO. Switched from the Mac standalone app since it needs to do some proxy/VPN crap on Big Sur to the extension and couldn't be happier. madrigal77 and DinkThifferent.
No ad blocker for the last week, on a 3.5 month old M1 MBA, and the speed of safari has been great! No sluggishness, like when I had the ad blocker "AdGuard" running on Safari. I originally loaded the Ad blocker on autopilot. I have Firefox as an extension on my iPhone, and just thought it was one of those "must haves".
Jan 30, 2021. #2. The word best is subjective. I use 1Blocker and have been very pleased with its blocking ability. It is subscription or a one time fee for lifetime. Many here also use Adguard and Wipr. mgymnop.
macrumors 65816. Thank you for suggesting this! Ive been using AdBlock and Weblock for years as my Safari content blockers but DNSForge is the only way I’ve found to block in-app ads in iOS 14 (except for YouTube) and it’s FREE. Every paid ad blocker I’ve tried since iOS 14 dropped is trash and doesn’t block any in-app ads at all.
I'm Brian and I will do my best to help you. My favorite ad blocker is uBlock Origin. It's an add-in for Chromium-based browsers like Edge or Chrome. It also works in Firefox. Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. I know I can get an Ad blocker, but I'm needing advice on WHICH one to get that is trouble free and thorough.
To disable third-party ad-blocking extensions: Click on three horizontal dots at top right corner of Edge browser. Go to Extensions. From here you can either toggle off your ad-blocker extension or click 'Remove' button to remove it entirely. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
