The Arts Center is a collaboration between the Cannon Community Playhouse (est. 1980), the Cannon County Historical Society, and the Cannon Association of Craft Artists. The original Arts Center, a 7,000 square-foot facility, opened in March 1991. The facility has undergone multiple expansions [1] and currently occupies 18,000 square feet.

Formerly the residence of Nashville's Cheek family, the 30,000-square-foot (2,800 m 2) Georgian -style mansion was opened as a botanical garden and art museum in 1960.
The facility consists of 29 galleries, art classrooms, a print study room with over 4,500 works of art on paper, a research library with over 5,000 volumes, and an auditorium. The collection has over ten thousand works of art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, and examples of the decorative arts.
